With more than two dozen state parks scattered across the Gem State, there is plenty to do and see in Idaho. While we love our state parks, many of the larger state parks seem to take the spotlight. But, there is one small state park that we highly recommend and that is a hidden gem worth exploring — Lake Walcott State Park. At just over 60 acres, this state park is definitely tiny but mighty. Spending time here is one adventure that you will not want to miss.

Lake Walcott State Park is located approximately 10 miles northeast of Rupert. It is one of the smallest state parks in Idaho with 65 acres waiting to be explored.

Many people come to this state park to spend time on the lake. Lake Walcott is an excellent location for fishing and boating.

This state park is also a popular place for disc golf. In fact, people travel from all over to play on the beautiful 21-hole disc course.

During your visit, you can also just walk around one of the many paved trails. The paths are an excellent way to explore the state park and you may even come across some wildlife on your journey.

For a day trip with the entire family, bring a lunch and sit in one of the delightful picnic areas. Picnic shelters are available with lots of shade and plenty of grass, perfect for relaxing and spending some time outdoors.

However, if you want to stay longer than a day, spend the night in the campground where you’ll find 22 serviced and 18 standard campsites.

If you desire something a little more modern, there are charming cabins you can rent as well.

Also along Lake Walcott is the Minidoka National Wildlife Refuge. Grab your camera and spend some time in this refuge during your visit. It’s a beautiful destination with wildlife and incredible Idaho views.
