When summer comes, it’s time to start thinking about day trips in Connecticut. Many people opt to travel to one of the many amusement parks in New England. But do you know what’s even better than visiting an amusement park in Connecticut? How about visiting a combination amusement park and water park in Connecticut? We’ve got just that in Lake Compounce, which has been delighting visitors for decades. It’s the perfect family attraction for a warm day of fun in the sun. Ride the rides and then cool down with a dip in the pool or on one of the water park’s slides.

Lake Compounce is the oldest continuously operating amusement park in the United States. It opened in 1846 and now spans 332 acres, including the water park area (which is included in the price of admission).

The park is a blast for the whole family, with plenty of opportunities for fun.

L E/Google Maps Lake Compounce has five roller coasters, including the mountainside Boulder Dash. It was the first wooden coaster to ever be built on the side of a mountain, and has won international awards.

However, there are plenty of kid-friendly rides also, if you’re not up for the adrenaline rush of a coaster.

There are also quite a few rides like you’d see at a county fair, such as a Ferris wheel and carousel.

Traditional amusement parks are great, don’t get us wrong, but on a hot summer’s day walking around on that asphalt, taking a dip in the water to cool off sounds splendid.
