The Kit Carson Cemetery is one of these spooky, yet beautiful destinations in New Mexico. This cemetery is believed to be haunted and spending time here can send chills down your spine. But, this entire area is actually quite beautiful and is a lovely place to enjoy some peace and quiet.

The Kit Carson Memorial Historic Cemetery is located in the beautiful mountain town of Taos. This cemetery dates back to 1847 when the land was donated for the burial of American soldiers and civilians who died during the 1847 Taos Rebellion.

Today, as you walk around this cemetery, you’ll notice all of the green space and the trees, providing plenty of shade for those who just want to sit and enjoy the area. There are also multiple paths, making it easy to walk around.

There are many well-known individuals buried in this cemetery including soldiers from the Indian Campaigns of the 1950s, Civil War, Spanish American War, World War I, and World War II. However, one of the most well-known individuals is Kit Carson.

While there is certainly plenty to see and enjoy throughout this beautiful cemetery, make sure you come prepared for a bit of a fright. This cemetery is believed to be haunted.

There are three unmarked graves at the Kit Carson Cemetery and they are rumored to belong to the brujas (the witches) of Taos.

But, whether you believe the three witches are buried in this cemetery or not, we recommend staying alert. You never know what unique spirit you may see, strange sounds you may hear, or even what cold feeling may quickly go through you while you spend some time in this beautiful Taos cemetery.
