Unboxing fond childhood memories is always a good idea, and you can do just that at Kiddieland in Waco. This retro amusement park was built in the 1960s, and the rides still have the same vintage look they did way back then.
Imagination runs wild at Kiddieland, a non-profit children’s amusement park in Waco that dates to 1965.
Google/Joshua Essary You’ll find the park at the intersection of North 42nd Street and Bosque Boulevard.
Located in Waco’s Lions Park - which opened even earlier in 1952 - Kiddieland features traditional amusement park attractions such as a merry-go-round, Ferris wheel, miniature train, and more.
Google/Joshua Essary Generations of Waco residents have spent many a weekend and summer break enjoying the rides, and that isn’t expected to change anytime soon.
While the rides have been updated for safety purposes, their original design remains exactly as it was nearly 60 years ago.
Google/Joshua Essary For all intents and purposes, stepping into Kiddieland is akin to taking a portal back to yesteryear.
Some of the newer attractions, including go-karts and a train, are more recent additions to the park, so they don’t have quite the same vintage look as the older rides.
Google/Joshua Essary They’re still just as fun, however, so don’t let minor details dissuade you from giving them a shot.
This year, visitors will enjoy a reconfigured go-kart track with tighter, more challenging turns.
Google/Carlene Atwood Updates have also been made to the putt-putt course, including re-carpeting and smoothing out of the concrete.
Unfortunately, the Ferris wheel will not be in operation this year.
Google/Joshua Essary In the spirit of fairness, however, the park didn’t just remove the ride - instead, they replaced it with a brand-new attraction. You’ll have to visit for yourself to see exactly what it is!
