No matter our skill level, we can find a picturesque trail that allows us to spend time in the fresh air among nature. For a one-of-a-kind adventure, join other Missourians on this “Bison-tennial” hike in Missouri this September.
Join in celebrating Missouri’s 200th birthday this year with an epic “Bison-Tennial” guided hike at Prairie State Park in Mindenmines.

The free hike is planned for Saturday, September 11, 2021 from 10 a.m. to noon.

A two-mile hike that will take you through the prairie grasses and past wildflowers, the trail features uneven terrain. Be sure to wear sturdy hiking boots or shoes.

Organizers also recommend bringing binoculars and a camera. After all, you’ll pass both grasses and wildflowers that stand more than eight feet tall.

You’ll likely even have the unique opportunity to watch the bison roam freely. That’s just one reason pets are not permitted on the trail or in most areas of the park, except picnic spots and in the campground.

Learn more about the park and its diverse topography as you wind your way along the trail. Your best bet is to wear long pants, rather than shorts, and to dress so you’re comfortable in the forecasted weather.

Don’t forget to bring along plenty of water and snacks to help keep you hydrated and energized on your adventure. You might even want to have a picnic at one of the tables after the hike.
