Many towns help make up the great state of Alabama. While most of them are pretty well known, there are still several that many people aren’t even aware of. One of these little-known towns is Hytop. To learn all about Hytop, a hiking town in Alabama, take a look below.

Hytop is a tiny Alabama town that’s located in Jackson County. Because it has a population of less than 500, not many people are even aware of its existence.

Incorporated in 1991, Hytop is also one of Alabama’s newest towns.

Most of the people who are aware of Hytop’s existence love the outdoors because the town is located just south of the scenic Walls of Jericho, which is considered the “Grand Canyon of the South.”

Located within the 12,500-acre area is the Walls of Jericho Trail, an 8.1-mile, out-and-back trail.

While hiking this lengthy trail, you’ll encounter a variety of things, including a cemetery. You’ll also cross man-made and natural bridges.

In addition to the Walls of Jericho Trail being scenic, it’s also one of Alabama’s most difficult trails to hike. Don’t let this stop you though. As soon as you reach the waterfall, you’ll realize the hike was quite worth it.
