We love epic, lengthy trails in the Peach State… after all, we’re home to part of the Appalachian Trail and there’s no better trail in the country! But you don’t have to be capable of a multi-day hike to enjoy some of the great hikes here. We have plenty of beginner-friendly hikes in Georgia that are great for kids or inexperienced hikers of any age. Check these out:
- Vickery Creek Park Trail Short Loop: Roswell, GA 30075,
Noah Cochran/Alltrails The Vickery Creek Park Trail is accessible year-round, but we highly recommend visiting in the summertime. Why? The man-made falls here offer a great spot to dip your toes in the water and cool off! There are several trails leading to the falls, but the short loop measures about 2.2 miles and is suitable for novice hikers. - Minnehaha Falls Trail: Lakemont, GA 30552
Cody Davis/Alltrails Minnehaha Falls is one of our favorite waterfalls in Georgia, and the hike to reach the cascade is quite easy and short. The trail is under half a mile, but note that there are stairs. Minnehaha Falls, Lakemont, GA 30552, USA
- Perimeter Loop Trail at Providence Canyon State Park: 8930 Canyon Rd, Lumpkin, GA 31815
Westley Johnson/Alltrails It doesn’t get much more scenic than Providence Canyon. One look at this magical place makes it obvious why it’s got the nickname “Georgia’s Little Grand Canyon.” The perimeter trail here is an easy two-mile loop that will take you around the entirety of the canyon. Providence Canyon State Park, 8930 Canyon Rd, Lumpkin, GA 31815, USA
- East River Swamp Trail at General Coffee State Park: 46 John Coffee Rd, Nicholls, GA 31554
John Given/Alltrails Many of the most popular hiking trails in Georgia are in the northern part of the state, where there are mountains, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t great trails in South Georgia to enjoy. One of our favorite places to hike is General Coffee State Park. This 1,511-acre oasis in Douglas is home to the 1.6-mile East River Swamp trail, which will take you down a meandering boardwalk through the woods. General Coffee State Park, 46 John Coffee Rd, Nicholls, GA 31554, USA
- Anna Ruby Falls near Helen, GA
Justin P/Alltrails The beauty of Anna Ruby Falls cannot be overstated. This magical spot can be reached via a one-mile trail, though note that the gate here closes at 5:00 p.m., so make sure you’ve finished up the trail and headed out by then. Anna Ruby Falls, Georgia 30571, USA
- Preachers Rock from Woody Gap Recreational Area: GA-60, Dahlonega, GA 30533
Tyler Vaughan/Alltrails There are several great hikes in the Blood Mountain Wilderness, and one of our favorites is the trek from Woody Gap Recreational Area to Preachers Rock. The lookout point is right along the Appalachian Trail and provides stunning views of the surrounding wilderness. Woody Gap, GA-60, Dahlonega, GA 30533, USA
- Dukes Creek Falls Trail: Richard B Russell Scenic Hwy, Helen, GA 30545
Curtis Fields/Alltrails The hike to Dukes Creek Falls is another of our favorite easy hikes in Georgia. This out-and-back trail is just over two miles, so it won’t take you all day, and the payoff of a waterfall is always spectacular!
