If you’re a fan of abandoned spots, then you may want to check out the following place. This hike is both scenic and rustic, and leads to beautiful ruins. Bring your camera and a craving for adventure!
The Seneca Mill and quarry ruins are located along Seneca Creek, near the Potomac River. Park at the end of Riley’s Lock Road and prepare to explore.

The trek to the ruins takes about 2.5 hours so be sure to dress appropriately and bring water and snacks.

Once you arrive at the ruins, you’ll notice that the sandstone is red in color. It may even remind you of DC’s Smithsonian Castle and other national buildings.

In fact, the red stone used for the Smithsonian Castle was actually quarried here! A lot of history is wrapped up in this one spot.
