Stroll across the impressive suspension bridge, taking you through the shady trees.

Extend your trek if you hike out on the east side of the Presque Isle River, cross the bridge to the shores of Lake Superior, and then hike back on the west side of the river. Or vice versa, take the west trail out and the east trail back. The west trail involves stairs and a boardwalk.

Another highlight of this trail is its proximity to Lake Superior.

Or strap on your snowshoes to hike the trail in the winter months perhaps? No matter the season, perchance you will share the path with some of the local wildlife.

This unforgettable outdoor adventure in the Mitten State is yours for the taking, grand vistas and wildlife included. Pure Michigan! For park hours and entrance fees, visit the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park website. We have to admit that Michigan does in fact look a bit like a mitten on the map, don’t you think? And that the Porkies caught on as a clever nickname for those Porcupine Mountains.
