If you are looking for ideas for the perfect activity for a warm day in Northern California, here is one of our favorites. Take a hike around the beautiful Mount Tamalpais State Park before heading down to Sol Food for some incredible Puerto Rican cuisine.
Mount Tamalpais State Park (also known as just “Mt. Tam”) is home to the tallest mountain in Marin County. From Mt. Tam, you can see the Farallon Islands located 25 miles offshore, downtown San Francisco, and San Fransisco Bay.

You really can’t find views anywhere else like this in Northern California. On Mt. Tam, you will hike through redwood and oak forests and grasslands.

One of our favorite Mt. Tam hikes is the combination of the Dipsea Trail, Steep Ravine Trail, and Matt Davis Loop. This 7.5 mile loop will take you to countless views of the Pacific Ocean, and you’ll also get the chance to see waterfalls and streams along the way. If you are really looking for a serious hike, we recommend Stinson Beach to Mount Tamalpais via the Matt Davis Trail. This 17 mile hike will take you from the beach to the top of Mt. Tam and back!

After all that walking, it’s time for some food! Sol Food Puerto Rican Cuisine can be found in Mill Valley and is simply incredible.

It’s hard to recommend a favorite dish but whatever you get, you just have to try some of their Plátanos and Cosas Fritas. Their Maduros (sweet fried yellow plantains) Tostones (green fried plantains) and Mofongo (mashed green fried plantains) are Puerto Rican staples and are delicious.

They also have great sandwiches, and daily specials every day!
