Compared with places like Australia, where tornadoes include lightning and dipping a toe in the water could lead to an immediate poisonous sting, Maine seems pretty tame. But, what people don’t realize is that we do actually have some things to worry about here. Things like being blinded by the beauty of autumn’s leaves, for instance!
After reading this list of the biggest risks living in the state of Maine, you just might second-guess your lack of an inner daredevil. Not just anyone is willing to risk missing dinner to watch a sunset!
- Actually freezing.

- Forests making you sick.
JP / Flickr Okay, this one is serious. Maine is home to some pretty dangerous ticks that have caused serious illness and death. When you head outdoors, tuck your pants into your socks and always, always do a full check once back indoors.
- Thinking the night sky anywhere else is boring.
