Here in Texas, we don’t believe that the atmosphere is a big part of a restaurant. We know that most of the time, the places that look a bit run down and uninviting often serve the best food because that’s all they have to worry about. We wrote an article on this topic a while back, which you can find here, but there are just so many in our state that we had to do a follow up. Here are five more delicious hole in the wall restaurants in Texas that you need to check out.
- Cook’s Fish Barn (Comanche)
Yelp/Sarah D.
Yelp/Steve H. Cook’s Fish Barn is famous among the locals, but most Texans have never heard of it. That’s a true shame because they have some of the best catfish around, fried to golden perfection.
- Coyote Bluff Cafe (Amarillo)
Yelp/Phenix R.
Yelp/Frank K. Coyote Bluff Cafe might look like an unassuming general store straight out of a Western movie, but we promise it’s much more than that. People come from far and wide to try their famous burgers made from the freshest, juiciest beef out there. Pictured is the ‘Burger from Hell’ which has sauteed jalapenos, Coyote Hell sauce, Tabasco, and all the usual fixin’s.
- Casa Mañana (Wichita Falls)
Yelp/Tim M.
Yelp/Jay D. You wouldn’t expect to find good Mexican food in a place like Wichita Falls, but Casa Mañana has been around for over 70 years, so they’ve definitely had time to perfect their craft - and their signature red tacos that patrons rave about.
- Weezy’s (Blossom)
Yelp/Joya H.
Jeremy P. Most people haven’t even heard of the town of Blossom, much less the restaurants in it. But everyone should know about Weezy’s - it’s one of those down home places that makes you feel all warm and cozy inside. All of their burgers start at 1/3 pound - just like we like it here in Texas.
- Ye Ole Butcher Shop (Plano)
Yelp/Scott S.
Yelp/Kevin S. Everyone knows we Texans like some good barbecue. We all know about Franklin and the Salt Lick, but there are plenty of lesser known places that are just as good. Ye Ole Butcher Shop is one of those places. Buffalo burgers and fried pecan pie? It doesn’t get much better than that, folks.
