Formerly a hospital for mine workers, the Jerome Grand Hotel is widely regarded as one of the most haunted places in Arizona. Guests routinely experience unexplained phenomena, from hearing disembodied voices to seeing apparitions floating across the room. You too can have a ghostly good time when you spend the night here (and dine in the on-site restaurant with its own fair share of creepy tales).
Perched high atop Cleopatra Hill, the Jerome Grand Hotel was originally a hospital. Most of its patients were mine workers who suffered tragic accidents on the job - and more often than not, they succumbed to their injuries.

The hospital saw around 9,000 deaths before it was shut down in 1944. In 1993, the building was converted into a hotel… but its victims still linger up and down the long, narrow hallways.

While the rooms feature a variety of modern amenities, the antique furnishings impart an eerie vibe that you just can’t shake. Plus, countless guests have reported hearing disembodied voices and footsteps, as well as seeing apparitions.

Perhaps the creepiest part of the entire hotel is the self-service elevator. In the 1930s, the maintenance man was found pinned underneath it on the ground floor. The elevator was in perfect condition, so many believe his “accidental” death was actually a homicide.

The Asylum Restaurant, located in the hotel lobby, is a fine dining establishment where guests come to enjoy scary good food. It’s also open to the public, so don’t worry if you aren’t planning to spend the night.

Embracing the hotel’s haunted history, The (aptly named) Asylum has a few ghost stories of its own. It also goes all-out for Halloween, so we recommend visiting around that time if you can.

Several of the menu items even pay homage to the spooky theme. Their signature butternut squash soup features a cinnamon lime crema in the shape of a spiderweb - so creative, right?
