Montana has a lot of famous landmarks and natural wonders, but our vast state is also full of hidden gems. It might come as a surprise to many Montanans to learn that our state has its very own “Great Wall of China.” Of course, ours isn’t a man-made structure to keep us safe. Instead, it’s part of a trail that’s located deep in the wilderness. When it comes to our Great Wall, Montana couldn’t be prouder. You can learn all about it below.

Our Chinese Wall is located in the Bob Marshall Wilderness.

Ben Hutchings / alltrails.com This massive limestone structure averages about 1,000 feet tall and stretches for more than a dozen miles.

Most people never see this structure in person because this is no easy hike.

Matthew Bennett / alltrails.com The trail is about 40 miles in totality (including the wall), so it’s a backpacking adventure that only serious and very experienced hikers should attempt.

The massive rock curtain marks the Continental Divide through the Bob Marshall Wilderness, which is pretty amazing.

The trail begins about 30 miles west of Augusta.

Although it looks highly intimidating, the area is so gorgeous, which makes it worth the challenge to find it.

Ben Hutchings / alltrails.com The Chinese Wall is legendary among die hard outdoor enthusiasts, and no one who has ever seen it will ever tell you the adventure isn’t worth it.

While the hike to and from the wall will obviously take several days, you’ll have to plan your camping carefully.

Wikipedia Camping is banned directly along the wall to maintain the fragile ecosystem.

Would you ever attempt this challenging, but rewarding, hike? Just like these stunning trails, it certainly has an amazing payoff.
