In today’s world of business turnover, it can seem like there’s a new business opening up every day. We love trying new restaurants: it’s exciting to be among the first to be turned onto something new, and it feels great being an early supporter of a local business. But at the same time, long-standing businesses are something to be treasured. After all, there’s typically a reason they’ve been in business so long! One long-standing restaurant in Kansas that’s been in business since 1985 is the legendary Ms. R’s Cafe. This place has been delighting locals and tourists alike for decades and has remained family-owned the entire time.

The restaurant opened back in 1985 and has been in the same location ever since. The founder, Ruth Scover, passed away last year, and Ms. R’s Cafe is now operated by her son.

The interior and exterior are simple, but don’t let that fool you. This is a great soul food and hamburger restaurant with a wide array of choices!

The burger patties are hand-formed and made to order. They’re quite tasty, and the prices are comparable to what you’d find at a chain fast food restaurant.

You’ll also find a ton of soul food on the menu. The dishes vary throughout the week, with a different special each night.
