Located at the Fullersburg Woods Forest Preserve in Illinois, you can enjoy a hike with gorgeous views just about the entire way. If you’re looking for a new hiking spot, you’ll have to add this one to your list.

Located in the suburban Chicago village of Oak Brook, Fullersburg Woods Forest Preserve offers 220 acres of nature that provides a much-needed escape from city life for many. Not only are there gorgeous nature views but a fascinating historic site is located here as well.

Along the trail, you’ll be surrounded by oak trees as the path runs alongside Salt Creek much of the way. Keep your eyes peeled for signs of wildlife like beavers, foxes, herons, and egrets.

Aside from hiking, visitors can partake in a variety of other recreation here. Mountain biking is an option as well as fishing, cross-country skiing in the winter, and bird watching.

As for accessibility, there are six designated parking spaces in the parking lot off of Spring Road. The trail itself is a mix of pavement and gravel and flat along most of the way. However, between miles 1.1 and 1.6, there is a steeper section, so assistance for wheelchairs may be necessary.

In addition to enjoying the nature and wildlife here, you can visit the Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center which offers interactive exhibits. You may also choose to tour the historic Graue Mill.

While nature and water are breathtaking to see here, Graue Mill is picture-perfect as well. With the variety of landscape and historic sites here at Fullersburg Woods, you’ll be treated to unforgettable views along this hike.
