The fried fish comes to West Virginia fresh and from practically everywhere, arriving in multiple shipments each week at Jewel City Seafood in Huntington, near the Marshall University campus. The brick building on 4th Avenue is not exactly a shack by definition, yet the unpretentious, quaint atmosphere of Jersey City Seafood and the fresh fish makes it feel like a beachfront destination. Cod from the North Atlantic, Scottish salmon, walleye from the Great Lakes and catfish from Chesapeake Bay are just a few of the imported selections. The late Joe Beter, who opened the restaurant and retail market in 2000 with his brother-in-law Dickie Anderson, was known for his connections in the seafood industry.
Jewel City Seafood moved to 4th Avenue in Huntington in 2007.
