Wisconsin has its share of run-of-the-mill chain restaurants. If you head out on the road, however, you can find some delightful local haunts that are always worth a visit. You’ll know them them you see them – a sign out by the road that may have the logo of a draft beer. There will be a parking lot that may be home to a few motorcycles, ATVs, or snowmobiles, depending on the season. These dining spots are not about the latest trend. They are about great food and friends, and an hour or two of talking smart and eating well. Joe Rouer’s Bar is one of these places, a restaurant that’s been delivering the best burgers in Wisconsin for decades. Here’s what’s waiting for you at Joe Rouer’s Bar.

The restaurant is located 25 miles northeast of Green Bay in the unincorporated community of Duvall, surrounded by farmland. While it’s a little out of the way, it’s the perfect rest stop if you’re heading north for a vacation in Door County.

The place was founded back in 1952 by Joe Rouer himself. Fortunately, not much has changed. Even a fire that destroyed the original building didn’t stop the tradition of great food and drinks.

Burgers are the star of the menu. If you’re hoping to find an inventive fusion burger that incorporates all the latest food trends, you might want to dine elsewhere. But if you’re hungry for an American classic that you can hold with both hands and savor, this is the spot.

The restaurant has always been family run. Joe Rouer’s grandson not runs the place and he cooks up burgers with old school flair. He fries up 1/3-pound burgers with a little onion and a lot of deliciousness!

The burgers have a lot of fans – they have made some best burger lists, and people drive for miles just to get a bite!

You can find other Wisconsin classics here: the cheese curds don’t disappoint and the cold Wisconsin beer hits the spot too. You may want to linger for a while, especially on game day.
