The Rueben – that wonderful concoction of corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Thousand Island dressing, was reportedly invented by Reuben Kulakofsky, who was a Jewish Lithuanian-born grocer residing in Omaha, Nebraska. He asked a local hotel cook to make the sandwich and an icon was born.
