Sun Crest opened more than four decades ago after the family created an entire water park using the cool, flow-through waters of a tiny creek whose head waters are about a mile upstream. For those who are allergic to chlorine, the natural water is ideal.

And for everyone else, Sun Crest is just plain fun in the sun.

Because the park is located about halfway between Charlotte and the Virginia border, opening dates each season are usually in mid-June, when the air (and water) has a chance to warm up a bit in this part of the state.

Aside from the natural water flowing through this little water park, the attraction also features six water slides with at least one that will appeal to every age, plus a rope swing.

One end of the park is roped off in the water to mark the deep end, even though the water is technically just flowing through the pool.
