Welcome to Yellowwood Lake Road, a scenic route in Indiana that’s much-beloved by drivers, hikers, and mountain bikers alike.
Jesse Lechleiter/AllTrails It’s partially paved, partially dirt, and partially gravel - perfect for almost everyone to make their way through.
The enchanting Yellowwood State Forest was formally established in 1940.
Jesse Lechleiter/AllTrails Located in close proximity to Hoosier State staples like Brown County State Park and the town of Nashville, this little hidden gem is wonderful for a short-and-sweet drive through some of Indiana’s most beautiful woodlands.
No worries, though - should you prefer to make it last, you can stop at many awe-inspiring places along the drive that are sure to get your imagination going.
Matthew Majors/AllTrails You’ll travel from the small town of Helmsburg (where you can check out some excellent artists’ galleries and even Brown County Iron, a famous Indiana blacksmith) to Trevlac. In Trevlac, you can indulge in checking out the Trevlac Bluffs Nature Preserve to make it extra fun. Hiking there is a blast.
From Trevlac, you’ll follow State Route 45 to Lanam Ridge Road and take a left.
Aaron White/AllTrails While you’re at this crossroads, you should make time to check out beautiful little Lemon Lake, which is accessible by taking a minor side quest along State Route 45 en route to Lanam Ridge Road.
After turning left on Lanam Ridge Road, you’ll follow it until you reach - drumroll - Yellowwood Lake Road!
Katelyn Reinhard/AllTrails It’s a stunningly beautiful little route filled with adventure and good times. As we mentioned above, the fall color in this area is ridiculously amazing. You’ll meander through some of Indiana’s most beautiful forestland, taking in the sights and sounds of the great outdoors. It’s a great way to get back in touch with nature, if you ask us!
You’ll encounter more lakes (Yellowwood Lake, specifically) and galleries along the road, and we recommend paying a visit to all of them.
Jessica Fattic/AllTrails Every moment of our lives is precious; it’s good to spend some of those moments taking in the immense beauty of the world around us, and if there’s anywhere that’s great for that, it’s Brown County, Indiana, and the amazing scenic drives within.
