Let’s be clear about one thing right off the bat: Border crossings are no joke. There are many formal crossing checkpoints throughout the USA and Canadian border, but there is something we found that we thought you might find interesting and wanted to share. There is a road in Northern Vermont – East Richford Slide Road in Richford, Vermont – where it crosses into Canada for a bit, and then dips back into the United States.
This road along (and through) the border is marked on some maps, but not on others. Let’s take a closer look at a road on the international border in Vermont. If you’re looking for unique attractions in Vermont, this is one that you probably haven’t tried before!
The Richford Slide Road in East Richford actually crosses into Quebec for about a tenth of a mile before dipping back into the USA.

The international border runs by this cemetery and you’ll find that most of the graves are written in French.

Borders like this aren’t entirely uncommon. In Washington and Idaho you’ll find plaques (erected June, 1989) that read “This unfortified boundary line between the Dominion of Canada and the United States of America should quicken the remembrance of the more than a century old friendship between these countries – A lesson of peace to all nations.”

St. Albans is one of the state’s best small towns for a weekend getaway and tiny Newport is a lovely small town destination as well. In the wintertime, you might enjoy a visit to Jay Peak which has some of the best skiing and snowboarding not only in the state, but in the nation as well. What’s the best time of year to visit this area? Vermont is great at any time of year but every season is very different from the others! Summer can be hot and buggy but everything is green and alive. Winter is harsh and cold but the snow in this part of the state is so white and bright that its beauty will take your breath away.
