It’s no secret that we have some beautiful trails in Texas. Experienced hikers and weekend dabblers alike have plenty of great hikes to check out. Getting out and hitting the trails is a wonderful way to experience the Lone Star State and burn some calories at the same time. From our local parks to our more than 80 state parks, there’s plenty to explore here. One of our favorite easy hikes in Texas is the Eagle Point Trail at Caprock Canyons State Park. At over 15,000 acres in size (the third-largest state park in Texas!), there’s a lot to see here, and, needless to say, quite a few trails. This one can be hiked in a few hours, features beautiful scenery, and doesn’t have too much elevation gain.
If you’ve never been to Caprock Canyons State Park, it’s definitely worth a visit. Some unique animals reside here, and it’s got trails of varying lengths and difficulties.

The Eagle Point Trail is one of our favorites within the park. It’s an out-and-back trail, so you can shorten it up some if you aren’t up to the entire 4.3 miles.

You’ll get to see some really neat landscapes here. There are all kinds of interesting rock formations and there are educational signs along the trail.

You might even catch a glimpse of bison!
Dana Barfield/Alltrails Famous rancher Charles Goodnight kept a small herd of plains bison that have remained pure through the years and not interbred with domestic cattle. The bison in the park are the descendants of this herd, and part of a rare subspecies of Southern plains bison.
There isn’t much shade here, so make sure to bring along plenty of water.
