While the holiday season is considered the most joyous time of the year, it can also be the most stressful, thanks to expensive gifts and food, travel, and family drama that you somehow managed to avoid for the rest of the year. Do you need to sit back, relax, and avoid all of this stress (or maybe simply enjoy the winter air once we’ve reached that post-holiday blues point)? Then take a wintertime soak at the Durango Hot Springs in Colorado! See why they’re beyond amazing:

Located in - you guessed it! - Durango, the aptly named Durango Hot Springs, was “created as an extension of what has always existed here in the incredible healing properties of the natural mineral hot springs.”

Thought to have originally been used by the area Ancient Puebloan people between 1000 to 1200 A.D., the Durango Hot Springs are as historical as they are relaxing, as they were also used by other tribes traveling through the area circa the 1700s.

In the late 1800s, the Hot Springs were converted into both accommodations and a full-blown wellness destination, both of which are still relevant a century and a half later.

Hot Springs in Colorado January 26, 2022 Tori Jane What are some amazing winter getaways in Colorado?   Colorado is known as one of THE premier winter getaway destinations in the United States. It’s a ridiculously beautiful state year-round, but during winter, something magical seems to happen. When the snow falls and the woods are quiet, there’s still plenty of things to do, like choose an amazing place in the state to run away to when the mood strikes. Some towns are actually famous for their amazing getaway potentials, like Estes Park (which is easily one of the most beautiful places in the US – we swear), or the town of Breckenridge, which is quite literally built around the idea of being a destination town. There are also all sorts of amazing and unique places to stay while you’re here; if you’re a movie buff and you’re in Estes Park, you might want to check out the Stanley Hotel; we suspect you’ll recognize it right away from Stephen King’s The Shining (at least the Kubrick version, anyway). Other places we love include The Little Nell, in Aspen, and Snow Mountain Ranch, in Granby. For more ideas (and more information), check this article out! You’re sure to find something epic.    Are there many natural hot springs in Colorado?   Though there are just three “major” hot springs in Colorado, that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty more; in fact, Colorado is home to 93 developed (and undeveloped) natural hot springs. It’s a wonderful place to end up if you’re a fan of soaking in the earth’s warm mineral waters. They’re scattered throughout the state in an almost haphazard way; you’ll find some in Steamboat Springs, Hot Sulphur Springs, Dolores, Pagosa Springs, and Nathrop. Of course, you’ll find many more in many other places as well; once you get a good idea of where to begin, you’re sure to find all sorts of amazing hot springs all over this beautiful state.
