It’s no secret that Alabama is a top hiking destination. In fact, people travel from all across the U.S., and even world, to explore our great state. While many of the Yellowhammer State’s trails are quite known, several others aren’t – unless of course you’re a local. One of these little-known trails is the one that meanders through Dismals Canyon, and you can read all about it below.
Dismals Canyon is a scenic spot that’s tucked away in Phil Campbell, a small North Alabama town. It’s also one of the most unique destinations in the state because it’s one of the few places in the world where dismalites (glowworms) live.

Covering 85 acres, Dismals Canyon is also a great place to hike. However, unless you’re a local, you might not be familiar with its popular 1.5-mile trail.
