The name “Devil’s Millhopper” comes from the shape of the sinkhole below, which is the same funnel-esque shape that you would find at the bottom of a farm grain hopper.

Because the bottom of the 500-foot-wide hole was discovered with dead animals rather than farm grain, it was dubbed the “Devil’s” hole.

The staircase, which was rebuilt in 2019, features 132 steps that are quite steep so make sure to hold on to the handrails.
