We can all use an incentive to hit the trails, so how about a hike that leads to the best swimming hole in Georgia? Because in the oppressive heat of summer in Georgia, despite the fact that we’re surrounded by natural beauty and appreciating Mother Nature in all her glory, it’s great to have a reward waiting at the finish line. Which is why this swimming hole hike is the best solution! Not only do we get to enjoy the Great Outdoors and get in some quality exercise, but the reward is a refreshing dip in the waters at a beautiful Georgia swimming hole. Can’t get much better than that!
If you’re a native Georgian, you’ve probably already heard of the charming swimming hole known as Edge of the World near Dawsonville, Georgia.

But, for those who have never been to Edge of the World before, there is a hiking trail you can take to work up a sweat before you dive right in.

What is traditional called the Amicalola River Trail is known by the locals as the Edge of the World trail, and will take you right where you need to go.

While you won’t find much signage regarding the Edge of the World swimming hole, you can use the trail taking you from the Dawson Wildlife Management area into the surrounding forest.

The trail clocks in under three miles in length and is more moderate in difficulty – nothing too crazy though, just some rocks, ledges, and elevation changes to be aware of.

But once you get to the Edge of the World and can enjoy a nice dip in the rapids or the pools that accumulate along the boulders, you’ll feel like you’re in paradise. We think it might just be the best swimming hole in Georgia!

Swimming hole in Georgia June 03, 2022 Sarah M. What’s another great swimming hole to visit in Georgia? Is there anything better than taking a dip in Mother Nature’s very own swimming pools? We sure don’t think so. And Georgia is home to some truly amazing natural pools that are simply perfect on a hot summer’s day! Our pick for a fun and under-the-radar swimming hole in Georgia is located at Lake Blackshear. A favorite summer swimming hole in Georgia, Lake Blackshear is also an amazing destination, with the Lake Blackshear Resort and Golf Club one of the state’s swankiest resorts and getaways. Talk about the best of both worlds! Are there any waterfall swimming holes in Georgia? Okay, we take back what we said before. There is something better than taking a dip at a great swimming hole in Georgia on an oppressively hot day in the Peach State: taking a plunge in a waterfall swimming hole in the Peach State! One our favorites is Helton Creek Falls. In addition to boasting beautiful views, this waterfall boasts some awesome swimming opportunities. In fact, in the Lower Falls, for example, people have brought tubes or yoga mats to slide down the rocks into the water, making for an epic waterslide courtesy of Mother Nature! Another waterfall swimming hole in Georgia worth seeking out is Blue Hole Falls in Hiawassee. This water is not only incredibly crystal-clear, it’s also immensely refreshing during those hot and humid summer months. It is located just a few miles north of Helen, Georgia, and may be difficult to find, so use your GPS and don’t forget to bring your swimsuit. What a fun waterfall chasing adventure in the Peach State!
