Other than being a small town where a number of different state highways cross, not much happens in Lexington, New York. This lovely little village is more than a little bit off the beaten path in the Catskill Mountains west of Hunter. Due to the fact that most people just pass through Lexington on their way to somewhere else, lots of people don’t know about the Diamond Notch Trail, and the fact that it leads to the beautiful Diamond Notch Falls. You can enjoy this out-and-back trail in an afternoon, as it will take just about 45 minutes each way, and you’ll love hanging out at the falls. This hike is great at any time of year, so read on to learn more about it, and plan your adventure today.

There are two different trails that can take you to Diamond Notch Falls. One is via Diamond Notch Road and it’s four miles long. A shorter route gets you there in just 1.7 miles from Sprucetown Road. Both trails are rated moderately challenging, but the latter has just 223 feet of elevation gain versus 1,387 feet of elevation gain on the former.
