Chances are, you’re breaking laws in Wyoming and don’t even know it.There are some things you could be doing very innocently in Wyoming that could lead to a fine or even jail time. Not many people realize that these things are actually illegal in this state. Check out these weird laws in Wyoming.
- You may not take a picture of a rabbit from January to April without an official permit.
Flickr/Marit & Toomas Hinnosaar Why is it illegal to take a picture of a rabbit in Wyoming? No one seems to know why this seasonal law was ever in effect. It doesn’t seem to have anything to do with Wyoming trapping regulations or anything else.
- It’s illegal for women to stand within five feet of a bar while drinking.
Flickr/Kayla Sawyer Ok ladies…make sure you keep your distance from the bar.
- Any person who fails to close a gate is subject to a fine of up to $750.
Flickr/Polyrus Crazy? Maybe so, but it is so all livestock on private property remain contained for their well being and for the well being of others.
- Photographing pollution is illegal in Wyoming.
Flickr/dominique cappronier This is a relatively new law passed last year that makes it a crime to gather data regarding the condition of the environment with the intention of sharing it with the state or federal government. And yes, a photo is considered data. The law seems to be protecting polluters from prosecution and making it a crime to collect evidence against them.
- Scouting for wildlife with drones during hunting season is now illegal in the state of Wyoming.
Richard Newstead/The Image Bank via Getty Images This law bans the use of unmanned drones and piloted aircraft in scouting game animals from August 1st to January 31st. This is due to the fact that it goes against fair-chase principles because it just isn’t fair to the animals or the hunters.
- No person shall take, wound or destroy any fish in Wyoming with the use of a firearm.
Flickr/Michael Cote Just stick with fishing poles but make sure there are no more than 2 rods or poles and 3 or less hooks, flies or lures.
- It is illegal to spit on the steps of a school in Cheyenne.
Flickr/Jeffrey Beall What about spit and polish? Isn’t that a form of cleaning?
- In Jackson, one may not spit on the sidewalk.
Flickr/Al_HikesAZ Again, isn’t that the way to thoroughly clean something?
- It’s illegal to wear a hat in a public theater or place of amusement that obstructs a spectator’s view.
Flickr/ahl1 Surprised it’s a law but this should be done anyway out of pure courtesy for those around you.
- In Newcastle, it’s illegal to make love in a freezer.

Do you know of any other laws in Wyoming that are out of the ordinary?
