Oregon has tons of waterfalls, and it’s also home to many beautiful beaches…but there’s a spot on the coast where you can enjoy both at the same time. Throw in some sea caves, and you’ve got a trifecta of outdoor Oregon awesomeness. If you’ve visited Hug Point Falls, you already know exactly what we’re talking about. If you’ve never been, you’ll want to get there asap!

Hug Point State Recreation Site is located just south of Cannon Beach. It’s a day-use area that’s open to visitors all year long. You’ll find a small parking lot, restrooms, and picnic tables here.

Take a short stroll to find the pretty beach tucked away in a little cove. It’s the perfect spot to spread a beach blanket and enjoy a picnic, dig in the sand, and wade in the water.

Check out the sea caves right next to the waterfall. They’ve been carved out of the sandstone cliffs over time, and they’re fascinating!

You’ll want to pay close attention to the tide during your visit. While the tide pools and caves are easy to access during low tide, at high tide they’re very dangerous.

Back before Highway 101 was built, travelers had to make their way along the beach to navigate along the coast. Look for deep ruts carved into the stone by stagecoaches that once hugged the point here (which is how this park got its name).
