The trail system is small, only about four miles total, with the most popular loop trail being about 1.5 miles around the perimeter of the park.

The trails weave in and out of the bogs that are the centerpiece of the park, and a variety of trees attract dozens of bird species, making this an ecological wonderland not far from the busy shore city.

This Northfield park used to offer primitive, rustic camping, but in 2016, the park management decided to let the campsites return to their natural form and the park has been for day use only for the past several years. This has made it even more inviting to wildlife!

There are still some facilities here, like the beautiful gazebo, but for the most part, it’s a natural retreat with minimal evidence of human involvement.
