Most Montanans are natural history buffs. After all, our historic sites can be spotted all over the state, and many of them have been well-preserved, with well-documented stories. Marcus Daly was an Irish immigrant who became one of Montana’s most prominent businessmen, eventually having the Daly Mansion built in Hamilton. Marcus Daly also owned the Bitter Root Stock Farm. And if you happen to be traveling through the area and are in search of getaways in Montana, you can spend the night in an old-fashioned farmhouse on the property at a pretty reasonable rate.
This charming farm cottage was originally a Sears/Montgomery Ward catalog house from the early 1900s.
VRBO It was completely renovated in 2015, but it still maintains plenty of historic charm.
The house sits on the property of the historic Bitter Root Stock Farm, which was founded in 1886 by copper magnate Marcus Daly himself.
VRBO Bitter Root Stock Farm is still a working ranch, and it’s absolutely loaded with local history.
When you stay, you’ll enjoy absolute peace and quiet, with the added serenity of no nearby neighbors.
VRBO The house is adjacent to fields and pastures, so all you’ll hear are the sounds of the sprinklers and the occasional moo of the nearby cows.
This part of Montana is unquestionably and indescribably beautiful.
VRBO No matter what part of the Treasure State you call home, spending a weekend here just might make you consider a move.
The cottage itself is about 1,200 square feet, and it comes equipped with all the comforts of home.
VRBO The old-fashioned living room has modern amenities like a large TV and access to WiFi.
The kitchen has everything you’ll need to make your own meals, as well as convenient appliances like a dishwasher and a coffee maker.
VRBO You won’t be far from some of Hamilton’s tastiest restaurants, but you may very well decide to stay on this property for the duration of your staycation.
The house has two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and one with a set of two twin beds.
VRBO It also has a spacious full bathroom, so a small group of friends or a family can stay here comfortably.
When you stay at this cozy cottage in Montana, you’ll be close to all the best outdoor attractions of the Bitterroot Valley.

Getaways in Montana October 07, 2022 Sarah M. What towns make the best getaways in Montana? One of our favorite towns to “get away from it all” in Montana is Bozeman. Situated near Yellowstone National Park and Big Sky Resort, Bozeman is the perfect home base for your adventure in Big Sky Country. When you’re not trekking through the iconic national park or hitting the nearby ski slopes, you’ll want to spend time downtown, which is home to numerous restaurants, attractions, and accommodations that truly offer something for everyone. The Main Street Historic District is so picturesque, it looks like the setting for a movie; and in fact, parts of “A River Runs Through It” were filmed in this marvelous Montana mountain town. Located in the Montana Rocky Mountains, Whitefish is an outdoor adventurer’s paradise with the soul of a small town. This charming town is situated near Glacier National Park, so it’s the perfect home base for those wanting to explore the area’s glaciers, lakes, meadows, and mountains. Whitefish Mountain Resort offers 3,000 acres of skiable terrain, and during the summer, visitors can hike, bike, zipline, and race down the mountain on an alpine slide. Back in town, Whitefish is not lacking in personality; its streets are filled with local shops, quaint restaurants, and cozy little accommodations, all of which are at their peak beauty in the winter. Whitefish gets around 300 inches of snowfall each year, and seeing the downtown covered in a blanket of white will make you feel as though you’re in a real-life snow globe! To make your getaway even better, check out this ah-mazing cabin on Lost Loon Lake that’s just minutes from Downtown Whitefish!
