Islands may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about New Jersey! After all, our state is far from a tropical paradise. Even if your mind wanders to the barrier islands of the Jersey shore, you would probably never expect to find a delightful little island on the opposite side of the state, right on the Delaware River! Come spend some time at Amico Island and blow your previous perceptions of New Jersey out of the water.
Technically, Amico Island is a peninsula, but it’s only connected to the mainland by a tiny land bridge.

The park is located at the mouth of where the Rancocas Creek meets the Delaware River, in Delran, New Jersey.

The trail network on the island is just over two miles long and offers wonderful overlooks. On a clear day, you can see Philadelphia, too!

Along with the beautiful views, Amico Island offers some of the best birdwatching in the area. There are more species of bird here and in the surrounding area than in any other Burlington County Park, and it’s common to see great blue herons.

The Dredge Harbor Boat Club is adjacent to Amico Island, so you can pack a picnic and watch the boats come in and out of the harbor. What a lovely way to relax!
