Did you know there is a small town in Clearwater County that is packed with history? Pierce is one of the most historic towns in Idaho. Pierce is one of the oldest towns in Idaho. It was founded in the 1860s when a flood of miners came into the area to search for gold. By the end of 1861, thousands of miners started making this area their home.

In the 1890s, the town continued to flourish as timber was in great demand, and Pierce was located among large forests of white pine. The demand for timber helped this town thrive, even when mining began to decline.

One of the most well-known historical buildings is the Pierce Territorial Courthouse. Constructed in 1862, this was the first government building in Idaho and it is still standing today, making it the oldest public building in Idaho.

The J. Howard Bradbury Memorial Logging Museum is located in a historic 1920s log cabin in Pierce.

Also in town is a beautiful log church from the 1900s. Still in use today and known as Our Lady of the Woodland Catholic Church, this historic building certainly has a rustic charm that is peaceful and beautiful.
