Nevada’s great outdoors is a haven for adventurers both young and old. With miles and miles of extraordinary trails to choose from, there are definitely a lot of great kid-friendly hikes to enjoy here in the Silver State. Ranked as one of the top kid-friendly trails in the state, the Lost Creek Trail in Red Rock Canyon is one that should be on every family’s bucket list. Eventually leading you to a lovely seasonal waterfall, this short trail is one of the best hikes in Nevada because it is easy to traverse and the scenery is incredible from beginning to end. A gorgeous seasonal waterfall is just a short hike away when you embark on the Lost Creek Trail in Nevada’s Red Rock Canyon. At just 0.35-miles long, this simple hike is perfect for adventurers both young and old.

The trailhead can be found along Rocky Gap Road between Red Rock Canyon’s Scenic Drive and Willow Springs Picnic Area. There are two trails that depart from this area and lead to Lost Creek Waterfall. The trail on the left is the most direct route and heads southwest into the canyon.

The trail is well-marked so you don’t have to worry about accidentally wandering off-trail. From the parking area, the stone-lined trail will lead you directly to the towering cliffs of Lost Creek Canyon.

Hikers will then be led through desert brush and across a wash as the trail delves further into the canyon. A small section of the trail is comprised of a lifted boardwalk to protect the fragile riparian habitat.

The dirt trail continues after the boardwalk where you’ll soon come to an unmarked junction. The right side will take you to a loop trail, so stay to the left to continue into the canyon. The beautiful Lost Creek Falls is just a tenth of a mile away from this point.

The trail eventually crosses a creek bed and takes you through a tunnel of boulders. After passing through the tunnel, you’ll see the base of the sizable seasonal waterfall. Cascading over an overhang at the back of the canyon, seeing this waterfall when it’s flowing is a real treat!

Take a few moments to simply enjoy the sight of flowing water in this otherwise dry canyon landscape before heading back to the trailhead. This brief waterfall hike is a wonderful outing for families, so keep it in mind for future adventures.

There are a few trails in Nevada that we think you absolutely can’t miss. If you are a bit more experienced you may want to try the strenuous but rewarding Mount Rose trail in incline village. Daredevils may want to take the short but climbing intensive Calico Tanks trail. If you want something a little easier that you can do with the whole family you may want to try the Cave Rock trail in Glenbrook. How many state parks are in Nevada? Nevada has 23 state parks in total, which may not sound like a lot compared to many other states. However, we must keep in mind that a lot of these parks are absolutely massive, with the largest park in Nevada, Valley of Fire state park, clocking in at over 45,000 whopping acres!
