What makes Hotel Coolidge haunted is the ghost of Ezra “Wrench” Magoon. This man was a farmer and bootlegger who died inside the hotel in the early 1900s. What are two haunted places in Vermont that’ll send shivers up your spine? As mentioned above, there are many haunted places in Vermont. From hotels and restaurants to cemeteries and bridges, there are several places in Vermont where people have experienced paranormal activity. Because these strange occurrences involve the spirit of a girl named Emily, the bridge’s nickname has become “Emily’s Bridge.” In 1968, after using an Ouija board on the bridge, a high school student reported seeing Emily. There are a variety of theories regarding how Emily died on this bridge. One theory is she was waiting for her love so they could leave and elope, but he stood her up. She was devastated and hung herself from the bridge’s rafters. Another theory is that Emily arrived at a nearby church to marry her groom and when he didn’t show, she was upset and left in the family’s horse-drawn wagon. After going too fast and making an unsuccessful turn, Emily’s wagon crashed over the bridge and into the water. Today, even though there’s no evidence Emily existed, several people have reported the sounds of footsteps, banging, and the screams of a girl.

Supposedly, if you press one of the old call buttons, which are still inside the recruits’ rooms, the ghost of Mary will visit you during the night. Don’t worry though. She’s a friendly ghost.
