From Texas-shaped waffles for breakfast to people riding their horses through Whataburger, there are certain things you can only find in Texas. In the Lone Star State, you will never find yourself without something shocking, funny, or awesome to see here. Really, it’s impossible to be bored in our little (or big) corner of the country, what with all the unique things you can find in Texas!  While there’s a lot you can only discover within the borders of the Lone Star State, these 15 things are perhaps some of the most defining things about our amazing state.

  1. Buc-ee’s

Stacey Huggins/Flickr The beaver is a welcome sight on long road trips, because it means clean bathrooms and Beaver Nuggets are just around the corner.

  1. Texas-shaped waffles

scumdogsteev/Flickr Because what other kinds of waffles are there?

  1. While we’re on the subject of food, don’t forget to pick up a block of Texas-shaped cheese at HEB…

scumdogsteev/Flickr ..And make sure you pick up some Texas-shaped chips on aisle 27 to go with those, too.

  1. People pulling out their North Face jackets and beanies when it’s any colder than really, really hot outside.

The Hamster Factor/Flickr As soon as it hits 65 degrees or colder, the jackets and boots come out of the closets..no, it’s not a blizzard, it’s just our two weeks of mild winter weather.

  1. People going through the drive-thru on other modes of transportation.

Bar JL Horse Training/YouTube From horses cruising through Whataburger to a longhorn ambling up to the window at KFC, this is just one of those things you can only get in Texas!

  1. Nowhere else in the country can you go this fast on the highway.

  1. The #1 water ride in the country, the Master Blaster.

Angela Whitaker/Google Local I was just going to put Schlitterbahn in general, but then I realized there’s now one in Kansas City..it doesn’t really count though.

  1. HEB

  1. The SXSW Music and Film Festival in Austin.

Andrew Choy/Flickr People come from all over the country to partake in the most badass music & film fest in all of the land.

  1. Where else but Texas can you see the Big Dipper as clearly as this?

  1. Kolaches

  1. No one does Southern hospitality quite like Texas.

Things you can only find in Texas May 31, 2022 Sarah M. What are some unique things you can only find in Texas? More people move to Texas than any other state in the country, and I mean, why wouldn’t they?? Between our awe-inspiring and magical nature spots to the incredibly low cost of living, plus the friendliest people in the universe, we don’t know why you wouldn’t want to move to Texas immediately! If you have a friend or family member from out of state who’s thinking about living in Texas, just show them this list and they won’t have to think twice about where to live. Some of the best things and most unique things you can only find in Texas include our size. We have over 70,000 miles of highway in our state, which means plenty of road trips to take. We also have six of the country’s Top 20 biggest cities! Bigger cities means more fun, we say. We also have some of the most unique and wondrous national parks in the country, including places like Big Bend National Park and Guadalupe Mountains National Park. Our food is a huge point of pride in here in Texas, and we reckon to say that we have the best barbecue in the world… it’s something you can only find in Texas! Oh, and our chili, chicken fried steak, queso, and tacos are truly something to write home about.
