When you’re not trekking through the iconic national park or hitting the nearby ski slopes, you’ll want to spend time downtown, which is home to numerous restaurants, attractions, and accommodations that truly offer something for everyone. The Main Street Historic District is so picturesque, it looks like the setting for a movie; and in fact, parts of “A River Runs Through It” were filmed in this marvelous Montana mountain town. What are some walkable small towns in Montana? Montana is known for its wide, open spaces – but our small-town downtowns are a horse of a different color! Some of our favorite small towns in Montana have perfectly delightful and walkable downtown districts; these are the kinds of places where you can park your truck and explore to your heart’s content! One of our favorite small towns in the Treasure State is Livingston. Walking through downtown Livingston truly feels like a step back in town to the Wild West. This is such a neat town and it’s particularly wonderful to check out during summer in Montana. Another walkable downtown in Montana is Ennis. This tiny town was named after William Ennis, who was one of the early discoverers of gold in the nearby Alder Gulch in 1863. There’s not much to this place — it’s definitely a very small town. However, the downtown area here is a bustling little locale that is the very definition of small-town charm. This is one of the most adorable small towns in Montana, in our opinion!
